Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department intensified its road safety efforts on Monday with the launch of Operation Kavach, a special statewide enforcement campaign aimed at checking unauthorised bus operations and improving compliance with transport regulations.
The three-day campaign, scheduled from September 28 to 30, was announced during a technical workshop organised by the Transport Department at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) in Greater Noida.
The initiative is part of the Yogi Adityanath government’s broader push towards creating a safer, smoother and technology-driven transport system across the state. Officials said the campaign will focus on strengthening enforcement mechanisms and reducing risks linked to illegal passenger transport services.
Additional Chief Secretary, Transport, Amrit Abhijat announced the launch of Operation Kavach while highlighting the government’s focus on improving road safety standards.
Under the campaign, enforcement teams will conduct inspections against buses operating without proper authorisation and those violating transport rules.
The department aims to improve regulatory compliance and prevent accidents caused by unsafe or unauthorised passenger vehicles.
Officials said strict monitoring and enforcement activities will continue across Uttar Pradesh to ensure safer mobility for passengers.
Apart from road safety, the Transport Department also highlighted concerns related to increasing pollution levels in the National Capital Region.
Amrit Abhijat appealed to owners of End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles to send their old vehicles to authorised vehicle scrapping centres.
The department said disposal of outdated vehicles through approved scrapping facilities can help reduce emissions and improve air quality by removing older, highly polluting vehicles from roads.
Vehicle owners in NCR were encouraged to follow the official scrapping process instead of continuing to operate vehicles that have crossed their permitted lifespan.
The Transport Department also urged owners of BS-I, BS-II, BS-III and BS-IV vehicles to apply through the Parivartan Portal for related transport services.
The initiative is aimed at making vehicle-related processes easier and more accessible through digital platforms.
The department has been expanding online services to reduce paperwork, improve transparency and provide citizens with faster access to transport facilities.
The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department informed that 52 services have already been converted into faceless services, allowing citizens to access facilities without visiting government offices.
Another 40 services are being provided through the auto-approval mode, further increasing digital convenience for vehicle owners and applicants.
The department showcased these technology-based reforms at UPITS, where visitors were introduced to modern transport solutions, including advanced driving licence technologies and driving simulators.
During the workshop, officials stressed the importance of following traffic rules to reduce road accidents and fatalities.
Citizens were advised to maintain controlled speed, wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, use seat belts in cars, avoid drunk driving and not use mobile phones while driving.
The department highlighted that responsible road behaviour and strict compliance with safety rules are essential for protecting lives on highways and city roads.
The Transport Department’s participation at UPITS is focused on creating awareness about new transport systems, digital services and safety initiatives.
The exhibition provides visitors with information about vehicle registration, licensing services, online facilities and modern technologies being adopted by the department. The use of simulators and digital tools is aimed at improving driving skills and encouraging safer road practices among young people.
After the announcement of Operation Kavach, enforcement teams across Uttar Pradesh will carry out inspections from September 28 to 30. The Transport Department will continue monitoring illegal transport activities, promote vehicle scrapping for old vehicles and expand digital services for citizens.
The government’s focus remains on combining strict enforcement, technology adoption and public awareness to create a safer transport ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.
