New Delhi: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stressed the importance of expanding energy cooperation between India and the United States during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Rubio highlighted the potential of American energy exports in helping India diversify its supply sources amid growing geopolitical uncertainty and volatility in global oil markets.

According to statements issued after the meeting, Rubio underlined Washington’s commitment to maintaining stability in global energy markets, especially as tensions linked to Iran continue to impact international supply chains and pricing.

He said US energy products could play an important role in strengthening India’s long-term energy security. “US energy products have the potential to diversify India’s energy supply,” Rubio said during discussions on bilateral cooperation.
The meeting also focused on broader areas of cooperation including critical supply chains, emerging technologies and Indo-Pacific strategic coordination.
In a post on X, Rubio described the India-US relationship as important and said discussions covered energy partnerships, technology collaboration and regional developments in the Middle East.
Rubio also confirmed that he invited Prime Minister Modi to the White House on behalf of the US President.
The discussions come at a time when global energy markets are witnessing uncertainty due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The situation has complicated efforts by several countries to stabilise supply chains and manage fuel prices.

India, one of the world’s largest crude oil importers, has been working to diversify its energy sourcing strategy amid fluctuations in global markets. US officials have increasingly projected energy exports as a key component of strategic engagement with India and other Asian economies.
Apart from energy cooperation, the two sides also discussed expanding trade relations under the proposed “Mission 500” framework and strengthening economic ties.
Rubio indicated that additional announcements aimed at deepening India-US relations could be made in the coming months. The visit is being viewed as part of ongoing efforts by both countries to strengthen cooperation across strategic, economic and technological sectors.
