New Delhi: An era in Indian politics has come to an end. Former Delhi BJP president and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra passed away at Delhi AIIMS on Tuesday at the age of 94. His death has deeply saddened political circles.
VK Malhotra was born on December 3, 1931, in Lahore. He was the fourth of seven children of Kaviraj Khajan Chand. He distinguished himself in the fields of education and social service. Malhotra, who held a doctorate in Hindi literature, also played an active role in sports administration, particularly through his involvement in Delhi's chess and archery clubs.

Inspired by the ideology of the RSS, Malhotra entered politics through the Jan Sangh. He worked with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani to expand the Jan Sangh and later the BJP. He served as the President of the Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh (1972-75) and later as the State President of the Delhi BJP twice (1977-80, 1980-84). His hard work and dedication strengthened the BJP's roots in Delhi.
Malhotra, along with Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana, is credited with strengthening the BJP in Delhi. He kept the organization strong through many difficult times. Under his leadership, the BJP established a strong presence in Delhi.
The crowning achievement of Malhotra's political journey was the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, when he defeated former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh by a landslide from South Delhi. This victory was a significant milestone for the Delhi BJP and demonstrated VK Malhotra's political prowess.
In his 45-year political career, Malhotra served as a five-time MP and two-time MLA from Delhi. In the 2004 general elections, he was the only BJP candidate in Delhi to win his seat. He maintained a reputation as an unblemished, clean, and dedicated leader.
