New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday flagged growing uncertainty in the global political and economic environment while addressing the BRICS Business Forum 2026.
Jaishankar said the world is witnessing a period of major transformation, with volatility, uncertainty and complexity becoming defining features of the current global landscape.

“Global political and economic order is under churn,” Jaishankar said, highlighting how geopolitical conflicts, pandemics and climate-related disruptions are creating economic challenges worldwide.
Addressing business leaders and representatives at the BRICS forum, Jaishankar said recent global developments have had significant economic consequences.

He pointed out that wars, geopolitical tensions, health emergencies and climate challenges have disrupted economies, supply chains and international cooperation.
According to the External Affairs Minister, countries now need greater resilience and the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
While highlighting challenges, Jaishankar also spoke about the opportunities emerging from rapid technological advancement and digitisation.
He said innovations in technology are opening new possibilities for economic growth, improving productivity and supporting development across sectors.

“The ability to anticipate, adapt and respond is acquiring greater importance,” Jaishankar said, underlining the need for countries to prepare for future disruptions.
The BRICS Business Forum is being held ahead of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, which India is hosting in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
The summit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in areas including trade, energy security, technology, healthcare, food security and supply chains.
India is positioning BRICS as an important platform for emerging economies amid changing global economic and political equations.
The BRICS Summit has gained global attention with the participation of several major leaders.
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday for a three-day visit and is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and leaders from other member and partner countries are also attending the summit.
Ahead of the high-profile gathering, security arrangements have been strengthened across the national capital.
Around 15,000 Delhi Police personnel, 200 companies of paramilitary forces and more than 500 CCTV cameras have been deployed to monitor key areas.
Authorities have also announced traffic restrictions and security measures due to the movement of international dignitaries.
Jaishankar’s remarks reflect India’s broader message at the BRICS platform — promoting cooperation, resilience and collective solutions amid global uncertainty.
With major economies facing geopolitical and economic challenges, the summit is expected to focus on building stronger partnerships among member nations.
