New Delhi: The weather across the country is set to change once again. According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department, an active Western Disturbance will enter northwest India from March 14th. Its impact is expected to bring rain and snowfall to the hilly states, while many areas of northern India may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain. Heat and heat waves are also expected to persist in some areas.

Rain and Snowfall in Hilly States

According to the Meteorological Department, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will be most affected by this Western Disturbance.

Light to moderate rain is expected in many areas of these states on March 14th and 15th, while snowfall is possible in higher altitudes. Meteorologists predict that rain and snowfall activity may intensify between March 15th and 18th. Thunderstorms and lightning may also occur in some areas during this period.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 30 to 50 kilometers per hour, which could lead to sudden changes in the weather.

Weather to change from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh

The weather will also affect the plains of North India. According to the Meteorological Department, light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely in Punjab between March 14 and 17.

Similarly, Haryana and Chandigarh may experience thunderstorms from March 15 to 17. Thunderstorms and rain are expected in Uttar Pradesh on March 15 and 16.

Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in parts of Rajasthan on March 14 and 15, which could lead to a slight drop in temperatures.

Heat wave threat in some states

While rain is expected to bring relief in many areas, the effects of heat may persist in some areas. According to the Meteorological Department, a heat wave is likely in Gujarat and western parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Additionally, the effects of hot winds can be felt in Konkan and Goa. Meanwhile, there is no sign of relief from the humid heat in Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.

Weather System Strengthened by Jet Stream

According to meteorologists, the subtropical Jet Stream is also active over northwest India. It is flowing at a speed of about 160 kilometers per hour at an altitude of about 12.6 kilometers.

Experts say that when the jet stream speed increases, western disturbances also become more active, increasing the likelihood of rain and snowfall.

Thunderstorms expected in Northeast India

The weather remains active in Northeast India as well. Severe thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are expected in Assam and Meghalaya.

In addition, some parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may also experience rain and thunderstorms.
