Telangana: IMD issues yellow alert for thunderstorms in Hyderabad today
Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert predicting light rain and thunderstorms in parts of Hyderabad.
The maximum surface wind speeds are expected to remain below 40 km/h.
According to the weather department, B. Jagtial, Hyderabad, Jangaon, Khammam, Mahabubabad, M. Malkajgiri, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Y. Bhadradri are the districts likely to see showers.
The weather agency has warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, which may also lead to traffic congestion. Earlier in the wee hours of Monday, Hyderabad had been placed under an orange alert indicating heavy rainfall, but the alert was later downgraded to yellow.
Odisha and Central India on alert for thunderstorms
For East and Central India, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at some or isolated places. Odisha is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall on October 12, along with thunderstorms and lightning from October 12 to 14. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are also expected to witness thunderstorms with lightning between October 14 and 16.
Thunderstorm warnings for Northeast India
A thunderstorm alert has been issued for the northeastern states on October 12. “Thunderstorms with lightning are likely over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura,” the IMD said.
