IMD Predicts Snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir
New Delhi: The weather is rapidly changing across the country. Winter is slowly receding in Delhi-NCR, and a mild warmth is beginning to be felt during the day. Meanwhile, there are signs of a change in the weather in the mountainous states of North India.
According to the India Meteorological Department, a new western disturbance will become active from the night of February 8th, bringing light rain and snowfall to the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. Currently, another western disturbance is persisting as a cyclonic circulation over northeastern Iran and Afghanistan, affecting the weather. The subtropical westerly jet stream is also active over North India, with wind speeds reaching approximately 130 knots.
An upper air cyclonic circulation is persisting over northeastern Assam, causing changes in the weather in the northeastern states. Meanwhile, a system formed near Kerala has now moved towards the southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep. Due to this, light to moderate rain is expected in some parts of Tamil Nadu.
Strong winds, with speeds reaching up to 65 kilometers per hour, are expected in the Gulf of Mannar and the Comorin region. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea or to remain vigilant.
Day temperatures have increased slightly in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, but nights remain bitterly cold. Minimum temperatures remain below freezing in many parts of the valley, and a cold wave continues.
Light snowfall or rain is possible in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh on February 7 and 9, while a warning of dense fog has been issued for districts like Hamirpur, Kangra, Bilaspur, and Mandi.
The weather in Uttarakhand will be clear and sunny during the day, but dense fog in the morning may reduce visibility. Traffic is likely to be affected in Haridwar, Dehradun, Haldwani and the surrounding plains.
Similarly, a dense fog alert has been issued in many parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, advising people to remain vigilant.
