New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across 15 states as monsoon activity intensifies. Wind speeds of up to 70 kmph are expected in several regions, increasing the risk of damage to trees, power lines and standing crops. States including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are likely to experience heavy showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
The weather department has advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid sheltering under trees and follow local advisories, warning that transport and power services could be affected in some areas.

In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 19 to July 23. Officials said a fresh western disturbance, combined with the active southwest monsoon, is expected to trigger widespread rain across the state.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Sirmaur districts. Authorities have urged residents and tourists to remain cautious in landslide- and flash flood-prone areas.
The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir, warning of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in vulnerable locations over the coming days. The department said weather conditions are likely to remain severe between Saturday night and July 22.
People have been advised to avoid rivers, streams and waterfalls, travel carefully on hilly roads and keep track of official weather bulletins. Disaster management agencies have been placed on alert to respond quickly to any weather-related emergencies.
