New Delhi: The weather has taken another sharp turn, with monsoon conditions appearing increasingly intense across several parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department has issued a serious alert for the next eight hours, warning that nearly 12 states could face a combination of torrential rain and powerful thunderstorms.
Wind speeds may reach between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour in some areas, raising the risk of damage to trees, hoardings, temporary structures and power lines.
According to the weather forecast, conditions may deteriorate suddenly in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and West Bengal.
Apart from heavy rain, residents have been warned about thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning strikes. People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert as intense weather could develop with little warning.
Delhi is expected to remain cloudy, with rain and strong winds likely during the day. Gusts could reportedly reach up to 70 kmph in some areas.
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra and Meerut, may experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall.
In Bihar, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and more than 18 other districts could witness rain, lightning and winds of up to 60 kmph. Traffic movement and daily activities may be affected in areas receiving intense showers.
The situation remains sensitive in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, where continued rainfall has increased the possibility of landslides and road blockages.
In the plains, low-lying areas of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan may experience waterlogging. Local flooding could disrupt transport, power supply and normal public movement.
People in affected regions have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during intense rain and thunderstorms.
Residents should stay away from weak structures, large trees, electric poles and open fields during lightning activity. Farmers and outdoor workers have also been urged to move to a safe location whenever thunder or lightning is observed.
