New Delhi: The monsoon season may be nearing its final phase, but weather systems across India continue to remain highly active. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning for several parts of the country, predicting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in multiple states.
According to the latest forecast, around 20 states are likely to witness intense rain activity on September 12, 2026. In some areas, wind speeds may reach up to 75 kilometres per hour, increasing the risk of waterlogging, tree falls and disruption to normal life.
The weather department has predicted heavy showers and thunderstorms in several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Kerala, Tripura and Nagaland.
Authorities in vulnerable regions have been advised to remain alert and prepare for possible weather-related emergencies.
Continuous rainfall in Himalayan states such as Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh has increased the possibility of landslides in several areas. Residents and tourists have been advised to avoid risky locations and remain cautious during heavy rain.
Meanwhile, coastal states including Odisha and West Bengal have issued warnings for fishermen. They have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough weather conditions and strong winds.
Delhi-NCR is expected to experience rain and thunderstorms, with wind speeds likely to remain around 45-50 kmph. The capital may record temperatures between 27°C and 33°C.
In Uttar Pradesh, districts including Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Mathura, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj are likely to receive heavy rainfall with strong winds. Several parts of Bihar may also witness thunderstorms and intense showers.
Rajasthan is expected to experience one of the strongest weather impacts, with several districts including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer and Chittorgarh under heavy rain and storm alert. Wind speeds in some areas may touch 65 kmph.
Madhya Pradesh is also likely to see heavy rainfall in districts such as Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain and Chhindwara, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
Following the IMD warning, state administrations and disaster management teams have been asked to remain prepared. Officials are monitoring sensitive areas to deal with possible incidents caused by heavy rain, flooding, lightning and strong winds.
