The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for severe cold day and cold wave conditions across several northern states. Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Delhi-NCR are expected to experience intense cold, dense fog, and low visibility over the next few days.
Severe Cold Conditions Expected in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding severe cold conditions in several states of North India. Severe cold day conditions are expected in some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh on December 26th and 27th. Daytime temperatures are likely to remain significantly below normal, potentially disrupting daily life. Elderly people, children, and those with underlying health conditions are advised to take extra precautions.
According to the IMD, Bihar is likely to experience extreme cold until December 30th. Minimum temperatures could drop sharply in several districts. Meanwhile, cold day and cold wave conditions are expected to persist in Uttarakhand until December 28th. Temperatures in mountainous regions could approach freezing point, increasing the risk of frost and slippery roads.
The meteorological department has predicted cold day conditions in western Uttar Pradesh on December 27th and in eastern Uttar Pradesh on December 28th. A cold wave warning has also been issued for northern Rajasthan on December 27th. The cold winds could lead to a further drop in temperature, causing difficulties for those working outdoors.
While there is currently no cold wave in the national capital Delhi and surrounding areas, fog has increased difficulties for residents. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for moderate to dense fog in Delhi-NCR. Visibility is expected to be very low, especially during the morning and night, which could affect road and rail traffic.
According to the IMD, except for a few days at the beginning of December, the minimum temperature in Delhi has not dropped below 6 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius this coming Saturday and Sunday, while it could drop to 5 to 7 degrees Celsius on December 28th. The possibility of a sudden drop in temperature is low due to partly cloudy skies.
The Meteorological Department predicts a slight increase in maximum temperatures on December 30th and 31st. This is expected to provide some relief from the cold during the daytime. However, fog and cold conditions may persist during the morning and night, so people are advised to remain cautious.
Dense fog may affect highway, rail, and air traffic. Drivers are advised to drive slowly and use fog lights. People are also advised to wear warm clothing and avoid spending extended periods outdoors to protect themselves from the cold.
