Weather Update: IMD Issues Nationwide Weather Warning as Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Lash Several States

The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across several states on Monday. Authorities have urged people to stay alert as intense monsoon activity continues.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forcasted a new weather forecast stating that several regions will experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, as well as heavy to very heavy rains, on Monday. The department alerted that the coming hours could see intense monsoon activity, which could increase the possibilities of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localized flooding.

Severe Rain Expected Across North India

The IMD has predicted widespread rains will happen in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand for the next several days.

However rains will increase in its intensity in the northern plains and the central plains. Several districts in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan will experience heavy rainfall.

The department has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in parts of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, and during such severe weather, avoid open spaces.

Strong Winds May Cause Disruptions

The IMD has stated that wind speeds of 80 km/hr will be possible in isolated places. Such conditions will cause uprooted trees, electrical outages, severe traffic disruptions, and damaged weak/still structures.

In the shallow plains, waterlogging is expected in several large urban ways. The residents have been advised to avoid the urban ways and keep themselves safe.

In the hill states, possible landslides and a sudden increase in river and stream water levels are expected.

Eastern States Also on Alert

Active monsoon conditions will prevail in the Eastern States over the next several days. It is set to continue across Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next few days.

In the above mentioned states, the heaviest spell is likely to occur in Odisha with very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall being recorded in some places. Heavy rains are likely to occur in Jharkhand. On the other hand, there will be an increase in the frequency of rains in Bihar during the week.

Citizens Instructed To Remain Vigilant

The IMD has instructed the state administrations to remain prepared for any emergencies due to weather activity. People have been told to keep themselves updated on weather information and refrain from traveling during spells of heavy rainfall.
