Kolkata: The West Bengal government has approved an upward revision in the monthly remuneration of several categories of contractual personnel engaged across the state’s school education programmes. The revised rates have come into effect from October 1, 2026.

The enhancement covers contractual personnel working under the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM), Paschim Banga Rajya Shishu Shakti Mission (PBRSSM), the Directorate of School Education and the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) programme.

Para-Teachers And Special Teachers Get Higher Remuneration

Under the revised structure, para-teachers at the primary level will now receive Rs 16,941 per month, up from Rs 11,941. The remuneration of para-teachers at the upper-primary level has been increased from Rs 15,523 to Rs 20,523.

Special teachers have also received a Rs 5,000 monthly enhancement, taking their remuneration from Rs 14,924 to Rs 19,924. Similarly, Shiksha Bandhu will now receive Rs 14,954 per month against the earlier Rs 9,954.

Changes For Shishu Shiksha And Madhyamik Shiksha Kendras

The revised rates extend to personnel associated with the state’s community and alternative education initiatives. Assistant or assistant teachers working at Shishu Shiksha Kendras under the PBRSSM will receive Rs 16,941 per month, compared with Rs 11,941 previously. Instructors and assistant instructors at Madhyamik Shiksha Kendras will see their remuneration rise from Rs 15,523 to Rs 20,523.

The government has also revised the remuneration of heads of Madhyamik Shiksha Kendras. Their monthly payment has been increased by Rs 6,000, from Rs 16,178 to Rs 22,178. Academic supervisors will now receive Rs 18,781 per month instead of Rs 13,781, while district programme managers will receive Rs 25,692, against the earlier Rs 19,692.

PBSSM Personnel To Get Bracket-Wise Increase

For contractual personnel under the PBSSM management structure, the enhancement varies according to the existing remuneration bracket. Employees drawing up to Rs 25,000 a month will receive an additional Rs 5,000, while those earning above Rs 25,000 and up to Rs 40,000 will receive a Rs 7,000 increase. Those in the Rs 40,000–Rs 55,000 bracket will get an additional Rs 10,000 per month.

The remuneration of PA-cum-DEOs under the PBRSSM has also been revised from Rs 14,774 to Rs 19,774. Contractual teachers appointed for selected subjects at the higher-secondary level under the School Education Directorate will now receive Rs 20,218 a month, up from Rs 15,218.

Personnel engaged in the PM-POSHAN programme have also been brought within the revised remuneration framework. Education volunteers under the scheme will now receive Rs 16,000 per month instead of Rs 11,000.

Finance Department, Cabinet Give Approval

According to the government, the decision was taken with the concurrence of the Finance Department and approval of the State Cabinet. The measure is intended to provide enhanced financial support to contractual personnel involved in the implementation of various education programmes across West Bengal.

The revision comes against the backdrop of the state government's continuing budgetary allocation for school education and allied programmes. The 2026-27 budget also provides for expenditure relating to PM-POSHAN, including wages and administrative expenses.

The latest decision concerns remuneration and does not, by itself, alter the contractual status or conditions of engagement of the employees covered by the order. The revised rates will apply from October 1, 2026.
