West Bengal Set for New Govt
Kolkata: West Bengal is poised for a new political chapter as the Election Commission (EC) has issued the official notification for the formation of the state’s new Legislative Assembly. This marks the completion of the electoral process and opens the way for the formation of the new government.
Issuing the notification is a key step in the constitutional process following assembly elections. According to senior EC officials, this formal procedure clears the path for swearing-in elected representatives and the establishment of the new Cabinet.
With the notification now forwarded to the Governor, preparations for the new government are gaining momentum. Election Commission representatives emphasized that the notification is a procedural requirement to ensure a smooth transition and the timely formation of the new administration.
The Election Commission reaffirmed that the assembly elections were conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, following all statutory guidelines and regulations.
Sources indicate that the swearing-in ceremony for the new government may take place on May 9, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. BJP State President Samik Bhattacharya mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed this date.
In the recent elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a decisive victory, winning 207 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured 80 seats.
Following the results, Mamata Banerjee has questioned the vote-counting process and alleged irregularities, while refusing to step down from her position as Chief Minister. Political tensions remain high in the state.
With the official notification in place, attention now turns to the swearing-in ceremony and the announcement of the new Cabinet. West Bengal is preparing for a new era in its political landscape.
