Weather Shift Brings Snowfall Risk in Himalayas, Relief From Cold Wave
New Delhi: North India is expected to experience a significant change in weather today. An active western disturbance is creating cold, rainy, and snowy conditions from Delhi to Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as this western disturbance moves towards the western Himalayan region, it will be supported by moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, which could further intensify weather activity.
According to the IMD, rain and snowfall are likely in large parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. These areas may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Snowfall and a drop in temperatures in high-altitude areas could disrupt normal life. In the mountainous districts of Uttarakhand-Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh-light snowfall is expected in areas above 2,800 meters, with very light rain possible at some places.
Although the weather will remain active in the mountains, heavy rain is not currently expected in the plains. According to the IMD, minimum temperatures in northwest India may gradually increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days, bringing some relief from the recent cold wave. However, dense fog may continue to cause discomfort in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan during the morning.
Temperatures in the national capital, Delhi, may see a slight increase today. The IMD has predicted a maximum temperature of around 21 degrees Celsius. The wind direction may change after noon, and moderate winds are expected to blow at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour. This may make the daytime weather somewhat pleasant.
The weather in Uttar Pradesh is about to change. The International Meteorological Department has issued a warning for rain, strong winds, and hailstorms in some areas between January 22nd and 27th. Rain is expected in western Uttar Pradesh from Thursday, while light to moderate rain is also possible in eastern and central Uttar Pradesh. An orange alert has been issued for some districts. During this period, temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius and winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 35 kilometers per hour.
According to the Meteorological Department, clouds will begin to increase from the night of January 22nd, and weather activity may become more pronounced in the plains the following day. Therefore, people have been advised to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions.
