New Delhi: At least nine people lost their lives after a massive fire erupted in a residential building in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area in the early hours of Sunday. Officials said the incident was reported at around 3:48 AM, sending emergency services into immediate action.

Flames Engulf Multiple Floors

The fire broke out in a four-storey building located in Vivek Vihar Phase-I and quickly spread to flats on the second, third, and fourth floors. The intensity of the blaze led to panic among residents, many of whom were asleep when the fire started.

Massive Rescue Operation Launched

Teams from the Delhi Fire Services, local police, and disaster response units rushed to the spot shortly after the alert. Around 10 to 15 people were rescued from the building during the operation. Two individuals who suffered minor injuries were taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment.

Multiple Agencies Join Efforts

A total of 12 fire tenders were deployed to control the flames. Personnel from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, along with traffic police and local authorities, assisted in evacuation and rescue efforts. The coordinated response helped bring the fire under control after several hours.

Cause Yet to Be Determined

Authorities have not yet identified the cause of the fire. The identities of the deceased are also being ascertained. Officials said a detailed investigation is underway to determine how the blaze started and whether any safety lapses contributed to the tragedy.
