Three Lives Lost in Delhi Fire (Img: Internet)
New Delhi: At least three people, including two women, lost their lives and several others were injured after a major fire broke out in a residential building in Delhi's Tughlakabad Extension during the early hours of Friday.
According to the officials, the Delhi Fire Service received an emergency call around 2:25 am reporting a blaze in a multi-storey building located near Naya Tara Apartment on Madhyan Marg. Firefighters from the nearby Okhla Fire Station rushed to the scene and immediately launched rescue operations.
The incident occurred in a densely populated area with narrow lanes, making access difficult for emergency responders.
Authorities said the fire generated heavy smoke that quickly spread through the building, trapping several residents inside. Fire personnel, assisted by local residents, worked to evacuate those stranded.
Eight people were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital with the help of the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS). While some suffered injuries and smoke inhalation, three individuals could not be saved.
Witnesses at the scene suggested that the fire may have started in vehicles and motorcycles parked within the building premises, though officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause.
The firefighting operation continued for over an hour before the blaze was brought under control around 3:45 am. Officials said cooling and safety checks were completed shortly afterwards to prevent any further flare-ups.
A detailed investigation has been ordered to determine how the fire started and whether safety violations contributed to the tragedy.
The incident comes just days after another deadly fire in Delhi's Malviya Nagar, where more than 20 people lost their lives. Following recent fire-related tragedies, authorities are reviewing safety regulations for residential buildings.
The Delhi government is considering stricter fire safety norms for low-rise structures, including mandatory smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. The Delhi Fire Service has also proposed a phased plan to improve fire preparedness in existing residential buildings across the city.
The latest tragedy has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger safety measures in densely populated urban neighbourhoods.
