Srinagar: PDP District Youth President for Baramulla Yasir Naik criticised the National Conference-led government and the BJP. He questioned their priorities over unemployment, workers’ concerns and the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Naik said more young people from Jammu and Kashmir were moving to other states and abroad in search of employment because of the limited job opportunities available within the Union Territory.
He said the situation was particularly difficult for daily wagers, Special Police Officers (SPOs) and casual labourers, who continue to face concerns over job security, wages and their livelihoods.
“Jammu and Kashmir’s youth are migrating to other states and countries in search of better employment opportunities due to their inability to get sufficient jobs here. While the daily wagers, SPOs and casual labourers are struggling with their own livelihood issues, the government has to explain where its priorities lie,” Naik said.
Naik also questioned the government’s decision to introduce a Bill proposing an increase in the salaries and allowances of MLAs, arguing that the move comes when large sections of society are facing financial difficulties.
“When the common people are struggling to make ends meet, when workers are demanding stability and when our youth are looking outside Jammu and Kashmir for employment, introducing a Bill to increase the salaries and allowances of legislators raises serious questions over priorities,” he said.
He further criticised the functioning of the Assembly, saying elected representatives should focus on issues directly affecting people instead of becoming involved in political confrontations.
“Where the people expect their issues to be discussed, we are witnessing political fights. The Assembly should be discussing unemployment, workers’ concerns, development, electricity bills, education and public services. This is what the people expect from their elected representatives,” Naik said.
On electricity-related concerns, Naik said ordinary families were already dealing with pending power bills alongside other household expenses. He questioned whether the government should be considering additional financial burdens when many people were already facing economic pressure.
Responding to Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma’s comments questioning the relevance of the PDP, Naik said the party’s political standing would ultimately be decided by voters in the next elections.
“If they are asking what PDP is, they should wait for the coming elections. The people of Jammu and Kashmir will answer them and show them what PDP stands for,” he said.
Naik also questioned the performance of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo, asking whether their respective departments were doing enough to meet people’s expectations.
He accused the National Conference and BJP of focusing on political rhetoric while key public concerns remained unresolved.
“The people are watching everything. They want jobs, relief, better public services and accountability not political drama. The people will ultimately judge every party by its performance and not merely by its statements,” Naik added.
