Kolkata: Hindu social media influencer Sharmistha, who was a victim of online threats, was arrested by Kolkata Police in Gurugram on Friday (30 May). It is being told that she was arrested for speaking against those who made objectionable statements about the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

Earlier, Sharmistha was given rape and death threats by many Muslim users on social media. Despite this, the police did not take any action against those who threatened her and arrested the victim, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Police reached Gurugram without a warrant

Social media activist Sunaina Hole informed us that Kolkata Police reached Gurugram without showing any warrant or document. Later they arrested her by showing the order of a magistrate. Sharmistha has been taken to Kolkata and will be produced in court on Saturday (31 May) at 12 noon.

Anger on social media

After this incident, many people called the police action one-sided and biased. People say that no action was taken against the one who threatened, but the one who opposed terrorism was sent to jail.

Now this case is raising serious questions about freedom of expression, communal balance, and impartiality of the police. The situation will become clearer after the hearing in the court.

What is the whole matter?

On May 14, Sharmistha replied to a Pakistani social media user in a video. That user was defending the terrorists for the killing of 24 Hindus in Pahalgam. Sharmistha expressed her displeasure over this and opposed terrorism.

Some people distorted her video and alleged that she had insulted Islam and the Prophet. After this, she started receiving threats of "sar tan se juda," rape, and murder on social media. Many Muslim users from Pakistan and India together also demanded an FIR against her.

Sharmishtha also apologized on social media

After the video was opposed and the police registered a case, Sharmishtha apologized on social media. Sharmishtha wrote, I apologize unconditionally to everyone. Whatever I said are my personal feelings. My intention was not to hurt anyone intentionally. I will be careful about my public posts in the future. Please forgive me once again.
