‘Why Is Amit Shah So Scared?’ Rahul Demands Supreme Court Monitored Probe Into Student Protest Crackdown

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the alleged police action against student protesters, accusing the government of failing to address concerns over the July 20 protest crackdown.

Rahul Gandhi Questions Amit Shah's Silence

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha questioned why Union Home Minister Amit Shah had not addressed the allegations in Parliament. In a post on X, Gandhi asked, "Why is Amit Shah so scared?" while alleging that the Home Minister was avoiding questions over the alleged use of force against students.

He claimed that the silence of the Home Minister "reeks of guilt" and demanded answers regarding the events surrounding the protest action.

Demand for Independent Investigation

Sharing a video that allegedly showed police action against protesters, Gandhi said students deserve justice and called for an independent high-powered committee monitored by the Supreme Court to investigate the incident.

The Congress leader was referring to the July 20 march to Parliament organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the subsequent police action against protesters.

Earlier Allegations Against Home Minister

A day earlier, Rahul Gandhi had demanded Amit Shah's removal from the Union Cabinet, alleging that responsibility must be fixed over the reported use of force, including claims of pellet gun deployment.

He argued that if the Home Minister authorised such action, he should be held responsible, and if he was unaware of it, questions should be raised over his functioning.

BJP Rejects Rahul Gandhi's Claims

The BJP rejected Gandhi's allegations, accusing him of making baseless claims and misusing parliamentary proceedings. Party leaders demanded that he provide evidence for his accusations and apologise for making serious allegations against the Home Minister.

The controversy began during a Lok Sabha debate on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, when Gandhi raised the issue of alleged police excesses against student protesters. Some of his remarks were later removed from parliamentary records, but he continued to press for an independent investigation outside Parliament.
