Extreme Heat May Make This Week The Hottest Yet
New Delhi: The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies for Saturday, with the maximum temperature expected to touch 41 degrees Celsius while the minimum may remain around 24 degrees Celsius. The weather agency had also predicted thunderstorms, lightning activity, and light rainfall during night hours in isolated areas.
On Sunday, temperatures are expected to climb further, reaching nearly 42 degrees Celsius. Partly cloudy skies and the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning may continue during the evening hours.
The rising trend is likely to persist into next week. Forecasts indicate that the mercury could touch 43 degrees Celsius on May 18 before slightly dipping to around 42 degrees Celsius on May 19. Strong surface winds are also expected during daytime hours.
With hot and dry conditions returning, the IMD has issued a heat advisory urging people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours. Residents have also been advised to remain hydrated and limit outdoor activities whenever possible.
The latest heat spell comes shortly after strong winds and dust storms temporarily lowered temperatures across Delhi and nearby regions.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality continued to remain in the “moderate” category on Friday morning. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER application showed the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 148 at 9 am.
Most monitoring stations across the capital reported moderate air quality levels, while one station recorded conditions in the “poor” category.
