Recently, claims were circulating on social media that India might be facing another lockdown. This rumor intensified after the Prime Minister's speech in Parliament, in which he referred to the crisis in West Asia and urged the country to remain vigilant and prepared. However, the Prime Minister made no mention of a lockdown in his address.
This confusion among people was also fueled by memories of the nationwide lockdown imposed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. This discussion intensified around the anniversary of that lockdown on March 24th, leading to the spread of misinformation on social media.
In his speech, the Prime Minister only stated that India faced a global crisis like the pandemic strongly and that the country should remain united and prepared in such situations. However, some posts misinterpreted this statement as being linked to the lockdown, leading to confusion.
The government clarified that there is no fuel supply crisis in the country. Meanwhile, excise duty on petrol and diesel has been reduced by ₹10 per liter. Additionally, arrangements have been made to secure domestic supply by imposing export duty on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). The government has assured that the country is fully prepared for any emergency.
