Around five lakh people reportedly watched the first day’s aerial display, while the next showcase is expected to bring more spectacular formations, a Chinook helicopter demonstration and a special tribute to Kashi’s cultural heritage.
## Wings Over Ganga Air Show: Varanasi Prepares for Another Day of Aerial Spectacle
The skies over the Ganga are turning into a spectacular showcase of India’s air power as the Indian Air Force’s ‘Wings Over Ganga’ air show returns to Namo Ghat in Varanasi. The event, organised to mark 94 years of the Indian Air Force, combines high-performance military aircraft, precision flying and a tribute to the spiritual identity of Kashi.
Rafale, Sukhoi-30MKI, Mirage 2000 and the indigenous Tejas fighter aircraft are among the major attractions. A Chinook helicopter demonstration is also expected to draw attention, offering spectators a closer look at the capabilities of one of the IAF’s key heavy-lift helicopters.
The event has generated considerable public interest, with families, children, young people and elderly spectators gathering along the ghats and sandy banks of the Ganga to watch the aircraft manoeuvre across the sky.
## Five Lakh Spectators Witness First-Day Display
According to the event information, around five lakh people watched the first day’s aerial display on October 22. Spectators witnessed fighter jets thunder over the river, performing coordinated manoeuvres and formations that highlighted the pilots’ precision and training.
The scale of the turnout has made crowd management a major priority for the district administration. With another large audience expected, authorities are focusing on security, traffic movement, medical support and the orderly movement of visitors near the ghats.
The participation of different generations has also given the show a strong public-engagement dimension. Beyond the spectacle, the event offers visitors an opportunity to learn about the Indian Air Force’s operational capabilities and its contribution to national security.
## Rafale, Sukhoi, Tejas and Chinook Among Major Attractions
The aircraft display brings together several prominent platforms associated with the Indian Air Force. The Rafale and Sukhoi-30MKI are expected to command attention with high-speed manoeuvres, while the Mirage 2000 and indigenous Tejas add to the range of aircraft featured in the programme.
The Chinook helicopter demonstration is another major draw. Known for its heavy-lift role, the helicopter represents a different dimension of air operations from the fast-moving fighter jets.
According to the event information, approximately 100 aircraft are participating in the aerial display, with aircraft taking off from 12 airbases across the country. The scale of participation underlines the coordination and planning involved in staging a major public air show.
## Three Kiran Aircraft Spell Out ‘Kashi’
One of the most distinctive elements of the show is its connection with Varanasi’s cultural identity. Three Kiran trainer aircraft are set to form the word ‘Kashi’, accompanied by a display of the Tricolour.
Aircraft associated with Lord Shiva and the Ganga, along with coordinated aerial formations, have added a local cultural dimension to the performance. The combination of military aviation and the heritage of one of India’s oldest spiritual cities gives the event an identity beyond a conventional aircraft display.
For spectators, these formations offer both a visual spectacle and a symbolic tribute to the city.
## PM Modi, Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath Expected on October 25
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitaries are expected to watch the air show from Namo Ghat on October 25, according to the event announcement.
Their expected presence adds national significance to the programme, which showcases the Indian Air Force’s aerial capabilities, technical expertise and operational precision.
The event is also intended to inspire young people to consider a career in the armed forces and develop a greater understanding of the role military aviation plays in national security.
## Security and Traffic Arrangements Put in Place
Under the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the district administration and police have made arrangements for visitor safety and crowd management. Officials are paying particular attention to traffic on routes leading to the ghats, security deployment, medical facilities and the movement of large crowds.
Concerned departments have been instructed to remain alert and coordinate closely throughout the event. The objective is to maintain security while allowing spectators to watch the aerial display without unnecessary disruption.
With large crowds expected and several high-profile aircraft scheduled to feature, the ‘Wings Over Ganga’ air show is set to remain a major attraction in Varanasi. Its mix of fighter-jet manoeuvres, helicopter displays and formations celebrating Kashi brings together military capability, public enthusiasm and cultural symbolism.
