New Delhi: World Environment Day is being celebrated today on 5 June across the globe. The Environment Day is a reminder to all of us about our duty and responsibility to protect planet Earth, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

This year the theme of World Environment Day 2025 is - 'End Plastic Pollution'.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the people to deepen efforts towards protecting planet Earth.

PM On X

Taking to social media X, the Prime Minister wrote on Thursday, “This World Environment Day, let's deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better.”

To mark the occasion, the Prime Minister is also planting a sapling at Mahavir Jayanti Park here in Delhi as a part of the celebrations hosted across the country.

'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par'

At the same time the palnting of sapling will also mark the anniversary of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par', an initiative launched by the Prime Minister as honour the motherland and motherhood as well as to protect the environment.

On World Environment Day last year on 5 June PM Modi had launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative and planted a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park here in the National Capital.

'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' is a symbolic gesture to honour all Mothers and also to save Environment. That is why the tagline is 'plant a tree in the name of Mother'.

This gesture is the reminder of the role of Mothers in nurturing our life as well as contributing to the health of the planet Earth.

The message behind this act is that like Mothers, trees are also life-sustaining and provide protection, and a future for the next generation.

Importance Of Trees

Highlighting the importance of trees in our life the Prime Minister said that in the last decade, We have undertaken many efforts to increase out forest cover in the country.

PM Modi had posted on X, “It would make you all very happy that in the last decade, India has undertaken numerous collective efforts which have led to increased forest cover across the nation. This is great for our quest towards sustainable development. It is also commendable how local communities have risen to the occasion and taken a lead in this.”
