New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government is stepping up efforts to bring digital learning into girls’ education, with students at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) using Khan Academy to strengthen their skills in mathematics and science.
The initiative aims to supplement classroom teaching with regular digital practice and help girls improve their understanding of key subjects. According to Khan Academy’s mid-month performance report for October 1-15, 96 per cent of KGBVs in the state have registered on the platform.
A total of 80,078 girl students have registered, of whom 66,996 have activated their accounts. Meanwhile, 30,503 students have completed at least 50 per cent of their prescribed monthly practice targets.
Sandeep Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education, said the government was focused on improving access to quality education and modern teaching resources for girls.
“Our priority is to ensure that girl students in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas have better opportunities for quality education and modern teaching resources. The initiative to develop their proficiency in mathematics and science through Khan Academy provides a new direction to girls’ empowerment.”
District-level figures show that Saharanpur, Ghaziabad and Kheri have recorded encouraging participation. According to the report, 92 per cent of girl students in Saharanpur, 89 per cent in Ghaziabad and 81 per cent in Kheri achieved at least half of their monthly practice targets.
The figures reflect efforts to encourage students to use digital resources regularly and make consistent progress towards their learning goals.
Under the programme, each student is expected to reach the Proficient/Mastered level in at least four skills in mathematics and four in science every month. The platform offers digital exercises that allow students to practise concepts and work towards these targets.
Monika Rani, Director General of School Education, said the focus was on ensuring that the platform was used effectively in schools and that more students made progress against the prescribed goals.
“Through Khan Academy, girl students are getting opportunities for digital practice to develop their skills in mathematics and science. Our endeavour is to ensure the effective use of this platform in schools and to enable the maximum possible number of girl students to progress towards the prescribed learning targets.”
The state government is seeking to combine digital resources with quality classroom education to improve learning opportunities for girls. Regular practice, encouragement from schools and guidance from teachers are expected to help students strengthen their subject knowledge and achieve the prescribed levels of proficiency.
The initiative is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader effort to integrate technology into girls’ education, with a focus on making learning more accessible and improving academic outcomes in KGBVs.
