Agra: A tragic incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Kheragarh area, where 11 young men from Kusiyapur village drowned in the Untgan River.
The group had gone to bathe in the river after immersing a Durga idol as part of post-immersion rituals.
According to local sources, the strong current and considerable depth of the river led to the accident, claiming multiple lives.
Angered by the delay in the rescue operation, villagers blocked the road from Kheragarh to Basai Nawab near Dungarwala. Villagers allege that if help had arrived on time, the youths could have been rescued immediately.

The idol was installed in the village of Kusiyapur as part of the Durga Festival. The men and women of the village reached the Untgan River with great pomp and show to immerse the idol. After immersing the idol, the young men began bathing in the Untgan River. Meanwhile, one after another, 11 drowned due to the river's high depth. The villagers present there tried to rescue the youths, but were unsuccessful.
As soon as the information was received, a large crowd gathered on the river bank. With the help of the villagers, the police rescued three youths in critical condition. They were immediately rushed to SN Medical College, Agra.
The police were informed after the accident occurred at around 2 pm. When the rescue team did not reach the spot even after two hours, angry villagers blocked the road from Kheragarh to Basai Nawab. Upon receiving the information, District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bangari and other officials reached the spot.
