‘Amit Shah Will Respond, You Won’t Be Able To Digest’: Kiren Rijiju’s Sharp Reply To Opposition Demand

Amit Shah’s statement demand triggers a fresh political showdown in Parliament. Kiren Rijiju’s warning to the Opposition over Shah’s reply adds more heat to the CJP protest row.

New Delhi: The political battle over the alleged police action during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) Parliament march intensified on Friday, with Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju hitting back at the Opposition’s demand for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah.

Responding to Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge’s demand, Rijiju said the Opposition cannot decide which minister will address the House, adding that the government and the Chair decide who responds on a particular issue.

Rijiju Defends Amit Shah, Targets Opposition

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Rijiju defended Amit Shah and said the Home Minister regularly attends Parliament and remains present during proceedings. Taking a sharp swipe at the Opposition, Rijiju said that when Amit Shah responds during a debate, the Opposition would not be able to “digest” his reply.

“The day discussion begins here and when Amit Shah responds, you will not be able to hear,” Rijiju said amid support from treasury bench members. He also accused the Opposition of repeatedly disrupting parliamentary proceedings instead of allowing discussions to take place.

Kharge Renews Demand for Home Minister’s Statement

Earlier, Congress president and Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge again demanded Amit Shah’s statement over allegations of police excesses during the CJP protest.

Kharge claimed that the Chair had directed the Home Minister to come to the House and respond to the matter. “You had asked the Home Minister to come and deliver a statement in the House. But they are not respecting your word and are insulting the House,” Kharge said.

Government Rejects Claim of Chair’s Direction

Rejecting Kharge’s allegation, Rijiju said there was no formal direction from the Chair asking Amit Shah to make a statement. “The LoP is misleading the House. There has been no such direction by the Chair. I am saying this on record,” Rijiju said.

He clarified that the minister responsible for listed business responds according to parliamentary procedure and the Opposition cannot dictate the choice of minister.

Parliament Proceedings Disrupted Again

The confrontation came amid continued disruptions in Parliament over the CJP protest issue. The Opposition has been demanding accountability over the alleged use of force against protesters during the July 20 Parliament march, while the government has defended the police response and questioned the Opposition’s approach.

Amid heated exchanges and protests inside the House, Parliament proceedings were adjourned on Friday and will resume on Monday.
