New Delhi: A new controversy has arisen between the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, and Meta due to the allegations made by the former chief minister of Delhi that he has been restricted on Instagram.

According to Kejriwal, Meta neither gave any explanation for the restriction nor gave any resolution to his problem.

Kejriwal Raises Query Against Meta over Restriction of His Account

Kejriwal has posted on X and addressed Meta and Meta India over the alleged restriction of his Instagram account in the country.

"Why have you restricted my account? Verbal enquiries at your India office revealed that my account has been restricted in India and is unavailable in India. Why? No one in your office is giving any reasons," said Kejriwal.

Furthermore, he also added that his emails to the company only fetched him generic replies from them.

‘No Kneeling Before Our Prime Minister': Kejriwal Taps into Meta's Political Fears

In an indirect political jibe, Kejriwal claimed Meta was under threat and appealed to the social media firm to not "kneel" before the Prime Minister.

“Don’t kneel so much before our Prime Minister otherwise he will let you operate your own account in India.”

These comments have come amid ongoing discussions regarding social media sites, content moderation and selective action.

Controversy Hit Meta Recently over Post by PM Modi

This follows the controversy that hit Meta recently over the temporary blocking of a post related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook account.

An executive at Meta later issued an apology for the mistake and clarified that the blocking of content was unintentional. This post was later restored after the review.

Kejriwal talked about this incident in reference to his alleged blocking of the account.

Meta Silent Over Kejriwal’s Accusations

No response from Meta on Kejriwal’s new allegations has been released yet. In addition, there is no information if any sort of restriction was put on his Instagram page.

The case has yet again raised discussions on social media moderation and the presence of global technology companies in India’s digital environment.
