New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam. According to the poll body, voting will take place on April 9 across all 126 Assembly constituencies, while the counting of votes will be conducted on May 4.

The announcement was made as part of the broader election schedule for several states going to the polls this year.

Election Process To Begin On March 16

As per the official timeline, the election process will formally begin with the gazette notification on March 16. Following this, candidates will be able to file their nominations.

The last date for filing nomination papers is March 23, while the scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 24. Candidates will also have the option to withdraw their nominations until March 26, after which the final list of contestants will be prepared.

Polling Across 126 Constituencies

The Assam Legislative Assembly consists of 126 seats, and polling will be conducted in a single phase across the state. Election authorities are expected to deploy a large number of polling officials and security personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of voting.

The election exercise forms part of a wider democratic process involving several states, with millions of voters expected to participate.
