Counting Of Votes (Img: Pinterest)
New Delhi: Voting trends from six by-elections across four regions are in focus as counting gets underway in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Assam. The contests include five Assembly seats and the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, with the results being watched for clues about the strength of the BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
West Bengal’s Nandigram and Rejinagar constituencies are among the most closely watched seats in this round of bypolls. Nandigram has long been associated with the political rivalry between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, while Rejinagar has its own contest involving regional parties and established political players.
The counting follows polling on October 6. Allegations of irregularities and voter intimidation had also drawn attention during the election campaign and polling process. The results are expected to be closely examined as an early electoral test for the state’s political leadership.
The Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly bypolls are drawing attention as Tamil Nadu’s political parties assess their standing following the recent change in government. TVK, led by actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay, will be watched closely, while the AIADMK and DMK will also be looking to strengthen their positions.
Both constituencies recorded substantial voter participation, with turnout reported at 86.26% in Madurantakam and 80.30% in Dharapuram.
Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll is attracting attention because of the contest involving the BJP, Congress and AIUDF. In Puducherry, the Thattanchavady Assembly seat is another important contest, with implications for the region’s ruling coalition and opposition parties.
As counting progresses, constituency-wise trends will offer a clearer picture of which candidates are gaining ground. Final winners should be identified only after the Election Commission confirms the results.
