New Delhi: Former IAS officer Divya Mittal is set to announce her next course of action from Mirzapur on October 15, putting the spotlight on her political plans ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. After resigning from the civil services following a 13-year career, Mittal has already declared her intention to enter politics but has ruled out joining any existing political party.
Her upcoming announcement has generated considerable interest, particularly as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also scheduled to visit Mirzapur on the same day. However, Mittal has not indicated that her announcement is intended as a challenge to the Chief Minister or the BJP.
Mittal previously served as the District Magistrate of Mirzapur, where she gained recognition for administrative initiatives, including efforts to bring piped drinking water to the remote village of Lahuria Dah.
During her recent visit to the district for Navratri, she participated in local events and received a warm welcome from supporters. Slogans of “Divya Didi Zindabad” were raised during her public appearances, adding to the attention surrounding her political plans.
On September 29, Mittal publicly announced her decision to enter politics, explaining that she wanted to become the voice of people whose concerns often go unheard in government offices.
She has repeatedly stated that she does not intend to join an established political party and wants to work directly with people. Her October 15 announcement is expected to offer more clarity on how she plans to pursue this approach.
Whether Mittal intends to contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections remains unclear. She has not announced a constituency or disclosed the precise structure of her proposed political initiative.
Several political parties have expressed interest in her political entry, but she has not confirmed any affiliation. Her October 15 announcement from Mirzapur is therefore likely to be closely watched for details about her next steps, priorities and plans for engaging with voters.
