New Delhi: The political battle between the BJP and Congress has intensified after Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic hugs triggered a sharp response from BJP leaders. The ruling party accused the Congress leader of making inappropriate comments and brought up historical images involving former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday targeted Rahul Gandhi by sharing a picture of Indira Gandhi with Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Taking a swipe at Gandhi’s criticism of PM Modi’s diplomatic gestures, Dubey questioned whether similar interactions involving Congress leaders were also being viewed in the same manner.
The controversy began after Rahul Gandhi criticised Prime Minister Modi’s foreign policy approach during the Rachnatmak Congress national convention.
While commenting on PM Modi’s habit of embracing global leaders, Gandhi hugged Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on stage. Dikshit’s remark referencing Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni further intensified the political debate. The BJP accused both leaders of crossing limits and making remarks that were disrespectful towards women leaders.
BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya also joined the criticism, alleging that the comments reflected an objectionable mindset towards women in public life. He said political leaders should maintain dignity while discussing international figures and accused the Congress leaders of reducing women leaders to inappropriate references.
The BJP maintained that diplomatic interactions should be viewed in the context of international relations and not through personal or political insinuations.
The latest controversy has added another chapter to the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress.
While Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly questioned the government’s foreign policy and PM Modi’s diplomatic style, the BJP has accused him of making personal attacks against the Prime Minister and international leaders.
The exchange of allegations has further intensified ahead of upcoming political battles, with both parties using the issue to target each other.
