Chandigarh: Internal fight within the Punjab PCC(Pradesh Congress Committee) is widening,day after day, with a faction led by former Chief Minister Charanjit singh Channi and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa openly revolted against state unit president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. The power struggle centered around the issue of projection of a chief minister face,ahead of the assembly elections scheduled in early 2027.
The Channi-Randhawa faction has actively sought to replace the present PCC chief Raja Warring.20 MLAs and former legislators gathered at Channi's residence to draft their demands to present before the Congress High Command in Delhi. The dissidence groups decided to boycott official party events and programs attended by Chief Raja Warring.
The development comes when AICC General Secretary in-charge of Punjab Congress,Bhupesh Bhaghel arrived in Chandigarh to resolve the factionalism in the party post the annoucement to retain Raja Warring as the state President.
meanwhile,state Congress Cheif Raja warring dismissed that there was any factionalism in the Punjab Congress. Peace efforts being initiated by Bhupesh Bhaghel are not yielding much progress. All the four factions would be going to Delhi and sit with party Chief Mallikharjun Kharge.
In other words,the High command is facing a crucial test of authority in managing the competing ambitions of state leaders without triggering fractures within the party.
The Channi-Randhawa faction has actively sought to replace Raja Warring,claiming the party's local body election performance in areas under his influence was lacklustre compared to regions championed by Channi.
