JK Assembly Session: JJM Irregularities Report, Cooperative Bill Listed Among Key Day One Agenda

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s Autumn Session is set to begin with several important matters on the agenda, including the report of a House committee on alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said the committee report, headed by former High Court judge Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, is scheduled to be presented before the House on the opening day of the session.

JJM Probe Report to Be Tabled in Assembly

The report on alleged issues related to the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission is among the major items listed for discussion during the first sitting.

The committee was constituted to examine concerns regarding the execution of the central government’s flagship water supply scheme in Jammu and Kashmir.

Cooperative Societies Amendment Bill on Agenda

Apart from the JJM report, the Assembly will also consider important legislative matters related to cooperative laws.

Cooperative Minister Javid Ahmad Dar is expected to introduce a bill seeking amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989.

The House agenda also includes a motion to repeal the Jammu and Kashmir Self-Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999.

Hundreds of Questions and Private Bills Await Discussion

Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather informed that the Assembly Secretariat received 646 questions for the session. Of these, 21 questions were rejected due to rule-related issues, leaving 625 questions for consideration.

The session also has 68 private members’ bills listed for consideration. While 21 new bills have been received, 47 pending bills from the previous budget session are also part of the legislative business.

Seven private members’ resolutions have been selected through balloting for discussion in the House.

Public Issues Likely to Dominate Session

The Autumn Session is expected to witness discussions on several governance and public-interest matters. With key reports, bills and resolutions lined up, the Assembly is likely to see detailed debates on issues affecting Jammu and Kashmir.
