Kolkata: The internal turmoil within the Trinamool Congress has intensified, with both the Mamata Banerjee-led faction and the rebel camp submitting separate lists of office-bearers to the Election Commission.

The Trinamool Congress loyal to party chairperson Mamata Banerjee has sent a fresh list of its office-bearers and national working committee members to the Election Commission. In the list, Mamata Banerjee continues as the chairperson of the All India Trinamool Congress. Subrata Bakshi has been named vice-president, while Abhishek Banerjee remains the national general secretary and the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha.

The list also names Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen as joint secretaries, while Subhasish Chakraborty has been listed as treasurer. The national working committee includes Mamata Banerjee, Subrata Bakshi, Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen and Subhasish Chakraborty.

Chandrima Bhattacharya has been named West Bengal Trinamool Congress president, while Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay has been listed as the Leader of the West Bengal Assembly. Both have also been included in the national working committee.

The move comes just a day after the rebel faction, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, held a special session in Kolkata and announced a parallel organisational structure. Former minister Aroop Roy was declared the new chairperson of the party, while MLAs Sandipan Saha, Jawed Khan and Ritabrata Banerjee were named general secretaries.

Ritabrata Banerjee also reached the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, to submit the rebel faction’s organisational list. He said the Election Commission needed to be informed after the national working committee elected a new chairperson.

“The Election Commission must be apprised whenever such events take place. It was a routine process. We had already informed them in Delhi, and today we came here to do the same,” Banerjee said.

Meanwhile, sources close to Mamata Banerjee’s camp claimed that show-cause notices have been issued to leaders of the rebel faction who were appointed as office-bearers in place of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari also reacted to the developments, saying the Trinamool Congress would not be able to recover from the split. Speaking in the State Assembly, he said, “There are several parties that lose elections, but nobody suffers a fate like this.”

The rebellion began after the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, in which the Trinamool Congress lost power to the Bharatiya Janata Party. On June 3, as many as 58 TMC MLAs supported Ritabrata Banerjee’s claim as Leader of the Opposition. According to his camp, that number has now risen to 65.

Out of the 80 Trinamool MLAs elected to the Assembly, only 14 are currently said to be backing Mamata Banerjee, while one MLA is behind bars.

The crisis has also spread to the party’s parliamentary wing. Of the Trinamool Congress’s 28 Lok Sabha MPs, 20 have reportedly decided to distance themselves from Mamata Banerjee and have formed a separate group. They have merged with the little-known Nationalist Citizens Party of India and have decided to support the BJP-led government at the Centre.

With rival factions now staking claim before the Election Commission, the battle for control of the Trinamool Congress has moved from party forums to the constitutional stage.
