New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was remembered on his birth anniversary as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the veteran economist and statesman, recalling his years of service and contribution to the country.
PM Modi shared a message remembering Dr Singh’s dedication to public life and said the nation continues to recall his contributions. Rahul Gandhi also paid homage to the former prime minister, highlighting his role and legacy in Indian politics and governance.
In his message on social media, PM Modi paid tribute to Dr Manmohan Singh and remembered his long association with public service.

Dr Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and earlier played a key role as Finance Minister during the 1991 economic reforms, which marked a major shift in India’s economic policy.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also remembered Dr Manmohan Singh, whose decade-long tenure as prime minister remains an important chapter in the Congress-led UPA government’s history.

A respected economist before entering the highest political office, Singh was known for his role in shaping economic reforms and policy decisions during his career.
Born on September 26, 1932, Dr Manmohan Singh served as the Reserve Bank of India Governor before becoming Finance Minister in 1991. His economic reforms opened a new phase for India’s economy and changed the country’s approach towards liberalisation and global markets.
As Prime Minister, Singh led India for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014 and introduced several major initiatives, including the Right to Information Act and MGNREGA.
Dr Manmohan Singh passed away in December 2024 at the age of 92. His birth anniversary continues to be marked by tributes from political leaders across party lines.
