Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday held a protest in Srinagar against the recent increase in electricity tariffs in Jammu and Kashmir.

PDP leaders and workers gathered to oppose the government’s decision, claiming that the tariff hike would increase financial pressure on ordinary citizens already struggling with rising prices.

The protesters demanded an immediate rollback of the increased electricity rates and urged the administration to consider the economic condition of people before making decisions related to power charges.

Party Accuses Government of Ignoring Public Concerns

PDP leaders, including members of the party’s Baramulla district unit, said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir needed relief after years of political and economic challenges.

Instead of providing support, they alleged, the government had increased electricity tariffs, adding to the difficulties faced by households. The protesters said that any policy related to the power sector should take into account the financial capacity of common citizens.

PDP Raises Free Electricity Promise Issue

During the protest, party leaders accused the government of going back on its earlier promise of providing 200 units of free electricity to every household in Jammu and Kashmir.

The PDP claimed that while people were expecting relief, the tariff hike had created additional pressure on families. The party demanded that the government take steps to reduce the burden on consumers and provide affordable electricity.

Protesters Demand Relief for Common People

The PDP said that rising costs of essential commodities and increased electricity expenses were making life difficult for residents.

The party urged authorities to review the tariff decision and introduce measures that would provide financial relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
