PM Modi Naraz Fufa remark sparks fresh BJP Congress political showdown
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remark on Naraz Fufa during his address at Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has created a major political controversy, with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launching a sharp response against the Prime Minister on Sunday. The exchange has intensified the ongoing BJP-Congress battle over political messaging, youth issues and government accountability.
The phrase 'Naraz Fufa,' used by PM Modi while targeting those who oppose every government initiative, quickly became a trending topic on social media and sparked a heated debate among political supporters and critics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the centenary celebrations of SRCC, one of Delhi University’s most prestigious institutions, where he spoke about India’s economic growth, development journey and the role of young Indians in nation-building.
During his speech, PM Modi highlighted India’s 7.8 per cent quarterly GDP growth and spoke about the transformation of India’s economy under his government. He also criticised the approach of previous governments and said that his administration focused on long-term planning, infrastructure development and reforms.
While discussing criticism faced by major government projects, PM Modi referred to people who oppose every initiative and described them as Naraz Fufa. He suggested that some individuals have a habit of questioning every development effort instead of contributing positively to nation-building. The comment immediately gained attention, turning a student interaction event into a major political talking point.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s statement, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused PM Modi of turning a platform meant for engaging with students into a political campaign.
Kharge alleged that instead of addressing concerns related to education, employment opportunities and the future of young people, the Prime Minister focused on attacking opposition parties.
The Congress leader claimed that the government frequently uses new descriptions for political opponents to divert attention from questions related to governance and public welfare.
Kharge argued that political labels may continue to change, but issues affecting ordinary citizens remain unchanged. He referred to earlier terms used during political debates, including Urban Naxal, Andolan-jiwi and Khan Market Gang, while questioning the government’s approach towards criticism.
According to Kharge, democracy requires open discussion and leaders should directly engage with concerns raised by students, citizens and opposition voices. He stressed that solutions emerge through dialogue rather than political exchanges.
The controversy comes after PM Modi’s wider message at SRCC, where he presented his government’s development record before students. The Prime Minister spoke about India’s economic rise, infrastructure expansion and policy reforms, saying that the country had moved towards a more ambitious development model.
He also mentioned projects such as the Statue of Unity and high-speed rail, stating that several major initiatives faced criticism during their early stages but later became symbols of progress.
The 'Naraz Fufa' remark quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with BJP supporters defending PM Modi’s statement while opposition supporters criticised the tone of the speech.
