Bankipur: Just days after ending the BJP’s three-decade hold over Bankipur, Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor has announced a job drive for the constituency. He has promised to help at least 10,000 young people find jobs over the next one to two years.
Kishor announced on Tuesday during his first visit to Bankipur after winning the August 3 bypoll. During his thanksgiving visit, he thanked voters for supporting him.
He responded to criticism that he had been away from the constituency after his victory, saying, “I am not travelling anywhere. I am working for you.”
He asked families with educated but unemployed children to prepare their CVs and biodata and submit them to his office. Kishor said he would leverage his contacts with companies and individuals across the country to help eligible youngsters find commercial-sector jobs.
He added that, while he couldn’t promise government jobs, he is confident some young people can set up businesses after leaving Bihar.
Kishor said he aimed to help at least 10,000 families in Bankipur get jobs for their children within the next one to two years.
He added that the scenario could be very different if the Jan Suraaj Party takes power in Bihar. In that event, he said, the party will make sure enough jobs are made in the state so that no youth has to move beyond Bihar in search of work.
Kishor's declaration followed his maiden electoral win for the Jan Suraaj Party on Aug 3, when he defeated BJP's Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll.
Kishor received 64,151 votes; Sinha polled 44,827 votes, while RJD's Rekha Gupta secured a distant third with 14,273 votes.
It ended the full 30 years of uninterrupted BJP dominance in Bankipur, its most-fortified seat in Bihar.
After his victory, Kishor had told the media that his topmost priority would be to fulfil the confidence the voters had placed in him. He had also promised visible changes in the seat in the next two to three months.
In addition to jobs, his other priorities are education, a monthly pension of Rs 1,100 and food grains.
