New Delhi: Political tensions escalated on Friday after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reached the DCP (Central) office in Delhi along with an injured student and demanded registration of an FIR over the alleged use of pellet guns during the Jantar Mantar protest.

Rahul Gandhi first visited the Sansad Marg Police Station with student Sahil Lochab, who claimed he suffered pellet injuries during the July 20 CJP protest. After the alleged refusal to register a complaint, Gandhi moved to the DCP office and staged a sit-in protest, stating that he would stay there until action was taken.

Rahul Gandhi Supports Injured Student’s FIR Demand

According to the Congress, Sahil Lochab had earlier approached Delhi Police along with his lawyers and submitted a written complaint regarding the injuries allegedly caused during the protest. However, the party claimed that police neither provided the investigating officer’s details nor gave an acknowledgement of the complaint.

The Congress has alleged that the student’s complaint was ignored despite repeated attempts to seek action.

Congress Alleges Use of Pellet Guns During Protest

The controversy is linked to the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ march organised by the CJP over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak issue. The protest, held at Jantar Mantar during the opening day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session, witnessed clashes between protesters and security personnel.

The Congress has alleged that Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel used pellet guns against protesting students, leaving some injured. The party has questioned who authorised the use of force and demanded accountability from the authorities.

However, Delhi Police has denied allegations that pellet guns were used during the protest.

CJP Protest Became Major Political Issue

The CJP-led student movement gained nationwide attention after protests intensified over demands related to the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. The agitation later became a major political issue, with protesters also demanding accountability from the government.

The protests had earlier led to political pressure on the Centre, with the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan becoming one of the key developments linked to the agitation.

Opposition Raises Issue in Parliament

The alleged pellet gun firing incident has also triggered repeated clashes between the government and opposition parties in Parliament. Opposition leaders have demanded an inquiry into the incident and action against those responsible.

With Rahul Gandhi now joining the injured student’s fight for an FIR, the controversy is expected to intensify further, turning the Jantar Mantar protest into another major political flashpoint.
