New Delhi: A fresh political battle has erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress after a comedian’s satirical performance at Rahul Gandhi’s student interaction programme in Indore triggered widespread reactions across political circles and social media platforms.
The controversy centres around comedian Pulkit Mani’s stage act at the Congress event ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’, where he mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public speaking style, diplomatic references and certain viral moments associated with his public appearances. The video clips from the programme quickly gained traction online, leading to a sharp exchange between BJP and Congress supporters.
While Congress leaders shared parts of the performance as political satire targeting the government’s policies and public image, BJP leaders criticised the act, alleging that it crossed the limits of political criticism and involved inappropriate references.

The ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme was organised by Congress as part of Rahul Gandhi’s outreach campaign focused on student issues, including education, employment opportunities, recruitment and concerns of young people.
During the Indore event, Rahul Gandhi shared the stage with stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani for a short interaction. The comedian performed a satirical act based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s communication style, including his way of addressing foreign leaders and his repeated use of the phrase associated with diplomatic conversations.
The performance also referred to some public moments involving Prime Minister Modi, including his interactions with children and a viral coin trick. Another segment referred to an incident where Modi had asked organisers at a public rally to arrange a chair for an elderly woman.

The BJP leader also referred to the recent Delhi University Students’ Union elections, where the ABVP won several major posts, claiming that Congress and its student wing NSUI failed to gain support among university students.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi criticised the incident, while Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also reacted strongly against the performance.
The BJP leaders maintained that political opposition should focus on government decisions, policies and public issues instead of personal references.
