Ranchi: For two Rajya sabha seats in Jharkhand for which election is due tomorrow the election is going to be a close finish with three cadidates are in the race. JMM candidate Baidyanath Ram, Congress nominee Pranav Jha and BJP backed Independent candidate Parimal Nathwani are contesting for the two seats.
A candidate is required to secure a minimum of 28 first preferential votes to win. The NDA lacks necessary numbers in the state assembly to ensure the victory of Reliance Businessman Nathwani,unless there is cross-voting.
While the JMM led alliance has got 56 MLAs is comfortably placed to secure one seat for its nominee Baidyanath Ram, the NDA has only 24 MLAs--BJP(21), AJSU party(1), JD(U)(1) and LJP-RV (1) and remains dependent on support beyond its official strength for Parimal Nathwani's victory.
Both NDA and Congress camps shifted their MLAs to safe place, with NDA MLAs in a Five star hotel in Ranchi. With the election day approaching fast, the Congress is claiming that there will be cross-voting from NDA and BJP MLAs are in touch with them. However,BJP leader of the opposition Babulal Marandi hit back at Congress and said we will get the required support.
With both the camps are taking all kinds of measures, but Political circles feel that high stakes are involved for Businessman Nathwani to defeat Congress candidate. Nathwani,is an outgoing rajya sabha member from YSRCP from andhra Pradesh.
Closely associated with business tycoon late Dhirubai Ambani, Nathwani is holding top position in Reliance group of industries.
The Gujarati Businessman, Nathwani,infact represented Jharkhand in Rajya sabha for two full terms of 12 years earlier. He has publicly appealed for support from MLAs across party.
