
Rajya Sabha election schedule for 24 seats announced
New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced the dates for holding elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states. According to the Commission, voting for these seats will take place on June 18, 2026.
The terms of the incumbent members holding these seats are set to expire in June and July 2026. With the announcement of these dates, political activity within political circles has intensified.
When Will The Election Process Begin?
According to the Election Commission, the process for the Rajya Sabha elections will commence on June 1, 2026. The official notification will be issued on this very day. Candidates will be able to file their nominations until June 8.
Subsequently, the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 9, and candidates will have until June 11 to withdraw their nominations.
Voting will take place on June 18, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The counting of votes will also begin on the same day at 5:00 PM. The Commission has clarified that the entire election process will be completed by June 20, 2026.

Election Commission Issues Special Directives
The Election Commission has issued special guidelines regarding the voting process for this election. The Commission has stated that, to mark preferences on the ballot paper, only the special purple-colored sketch pen provided by the Returning Officer shall be used. A vote cast using any other pen may be deemed invalid. The Commission asserts that this measure has been implemented to maintain transparency in the voting process and to prevent any form of malpractice. Furthermore, observers will be appointed to monitor the electoral process, ensuring that the election is conducted in a completely free and fair manner.
