New Delhi: After the success of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), another issue-based campaign is rapidly gathering pace on social media. An Instagram account named ‘Reservation Hatao Andolan’ (RHA) is a page gathering Instagram users around an anti-reservation ideology. The page has crossed 5.5 million followers on Instagram (while writing this).
The page has posted more than 100 posts and follows only the Indian Army. The page describes itself as a citizen-backed movement. In one of the posts, the page says it is not associated with any political party, and the founder behind the page is unknown.
The page argues that reservations undermine merit, increase caste divisions, and affect the quality of education by reducing competition, while calling for equal opportunities based on merit instead of caste.
The Reservation Hatao Andolan has also presented a roadmap for reform, arguing that if the goal is to eradicate caste-based discrimination, the government should stop requiring or recognising caste identity in day-to -day public life.

Reform or Propaganda

The upper caste of society has been speaking against reservation for a long time. Those upper-caste individuals who speak against reservation based on caste usally speaks against the SC/ST reservation in educational institutions and jobs, whereas they defend or keep quiet on EWS, citing “economic factors.”
India has been suffering from caste discrimination for decades, due to which people from lower castes, ST-SC, were debarted to gain education, visiting temples, and working as high-ranking officers; the government of India gives them reservation in government jobs and institutions for their social upliftment.
Without ensuring that every section of society is treated equally in the society removing the reservation would be dangerous, and it can worsen the condition of people associated with the lower caste.
