West Bengal politics heats up as Abhishek Banerjee alleges vandalism at TMC’s Kolkata office and demands action (Img: X)
Kolkata: West Bengal politics witnessed a fresh controversy after Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee accused BJP workers of attacking the party’s Kolkata office in the early hours of Thursday. Banerjee claimed that armed individuals entered the office around 4:30 AM, vandalised property, assaulted staff members and damaged electronic equipment.
Sharing a video of the alleged incident on social media, Abhishek Banerjee called it a “disgraceful assault on the rule of law” and demanded strict action against those responsible. He questioned the silence of the administration and sought intervention from the West Bengal Governor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the judiciary.
Banerjee alleged that the attackers targeted the TMC office located on Camac Street in Kolkata while he was away in New Delhi. He claimed that party workers’ phones were taken away, furniture was damaged and electronic devices were destroyed during the alleged attack.

The TMC leader further alleged that police did not respond despite repeated calls and emails from party members and lawyers for nearly two hours. He demanded an investigation into who planned and directed the incident.
The allegations have intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the TMC and BJP in West Bengal. Banerjee accused the BJP of using violence and intimidation against opposition parties, while demanding accountability from those involved.
The controversy comes days after Kolkata Police registered an FIR against Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MP Derek O’Brien and others over allegations of obstruction and assault during the removal of an unauthorised hoarding at Camac Street.
Meanwhile, the removal of a signboard reading “All India Trinamool Congress” from the building housing Banerjee’s office had also triggered a political clash between the ruling TMC and opposition BJP.
The latest incident has once again brought Bengal’s intense political rivalry into focus, with both parties likely to continue their allegations and counter-allegations ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
