New Delhi: After being sworn in as West Bengal's first BJP Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari stated on Saturday that he would commence his official duties only after offering tributes and prayers at Jorasanko Thakur Bari. He remarked that this day is historic not only for Bengal but for the entire nation.

Suvendu Adhikari noted that, in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wishes, the swearing-in ceremony was held on the day of Rabindra Jayanti. He described this decision as a gesture of respect toward Bengal's cultural heritage and the great litterateur, Rabindranath Tagore.

He affirmed that his government's foremost priority would be the reconstruction of Bengal. According to him, the state's education system and cultural identity have suffered significant damage over the past few years, a situation that now requires immediate rectification.

A Pledge to Work for All Citizens

Suvendu Adhikari declared that, having assumed the office of Chief Minister, he no longer serves merely as the leader of a single political party, but now represents the people of the entire state of West Bengal. He pledged that his government would work for every citizen without any discrimination.

He further stated that his government would move forward with unwavering commitment to steer Bengal toward development, better governance, and a new direction. The BJP government intends to operate in the state with renewed energy and a fresh vision. The BJP achieved a resounding victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, securing 207 seats. With this outcome, the 15-year-long rule of the Trinamool Congress in the state has come to an end.

BJP's Historic Victory

In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP delivered a historic performance, securing a clear majority. The election results have ushered in a major transformation in the state's political landscape. This victory for the BJP is widely regarded as the culmination of years of organizational expansion and sustained political campaigns conducted across the state.

For the first time, the party has formed a government in Bengal on its own strength. With Suvendu Adhikari assuming the role of Chief Minister, a new era of BJP governance has dawned in West Bengal.
