Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed strong confidence in her party’s prospects for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, predicting a decisive victory for the All India Trinamool Congress.

Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Banerjee said the TMC is expected to win more than 226 seats in the 294-member Assembly.

Candidate List Announced

The TMC has decided to contest 291 out of the 294 seats, leaving three constituencies in the Darjeeling hills for its ally. Banerjee also confirmed that she will contest from the Bhabanipur seat, setting up a high-profile contest.

Her candidature is expected to lead to a direct face-off with Suvendu Adhikari, making Bhabanipur one of the most closely watched constituencies.

Message to Party Workers

Banerjee sought to reassure leaders and workers who were not included in the candidate list, stating that they would be accommodated within the party organisation.

She emphasised that organisational roles would be assigned to ensure their continued contribution to the party’s campaign.

Sharp Attack on BJP

The chief minister also launched a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that its tally would decline in the upcoming elections.

She said the electorate would respond to what she described as anti-people policies of the BJP.

High-Stakes Election Ahead

West Bengal is set to witness a crucial electoral contest, with voting scheduled in two phases. Polling for 152 seats will take place on April 23, while the remaining 142 seats will go to polls on April 29.

The counting of votes will be conducted on May 4, as announced by the Election Commission of India.

Battle Lines Drawn

With strong claims from the ruling party and an aggressive opposition campaign, the 2026 West Bengal elections are shaping up to be a high-stakes political battle.

Banerjee’s confident projection has set the tone for the contest, as parties gear up for an intense campaign in the weeks ahead.
