New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament is facing the possibility of a complete washout as the Opposition continues its protest demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged police action against NEET protesters.
The deadlock has resulted in repeated disruptions in both Houses, with limited legislative business being conducted during the ongoing session.
Opposition parties have been demanding an explanation from Amit Shah regarding the police action during the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest march on July 20.
The Opposition has alleged that students protesting over the NEET paper leak issue faced police action and has been pressing for a discussion in Parliament.
Despite being present in the Parliament complex on several occasions, Amit Shah has not addressed the issue on the floor of the House, keeping the situation tense between the government and opposition parties.
Amid the continuing protests, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the government is ready for a detailed discussion on the students’ protest issue.
The government has urged the Opposition to allow Parliament proceedings to continue, while opposition parties remain firm on their demand for a statement from the Home Minister. With only two days left in the Monsoon Session, no major breakthrough has emerged so far.
The session, which began on July 20, has witnessed frequent adjournments due to protests. Apart from the debate and passage of the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, most proceedings have remained affected.
Several other bills, including the Vande Mataram Amendment Bill and other legislative proposals, were passed amid opposition protests.
The Opposition had initially raised issues related to the NEET paper leak and alleged irregularities linked to Ayodhya Ram temple donations. Later, the focus shifted towards the police action against protesting students.
The suspense over Amit Shah’s possible address in Parliament continues. According to the Revised List of Business, the Home Minister is scheduled to introduce two bills in the Rajya Sabha — the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill.
However, it remains unclear whether Shah will make a statement on the NEET protest issue.
As the Monsoon Session approaches its conclusion, both sides remain locked in their positions, raising concerns over further disruptions in Parliament.
