Mittal’s announcement marks a new phase in her political journey after she resigned from the Indian Administrative Service and declared her intention to enter politics. Her decision comes months before Uttar Pradesh is expected to head into Assembly elections in 2027.

The former bureaucrat, who previously served as the District Magistrate of Mirzapur, has attracted attention through her public outreach in the district and her stated intention to work directly with people rather than join an established political party.
By announcing her candidature from Mirzapur Sadar, Mittal has identified the constituency from which she intends to make her electoral debut. Her decision places her in the political contest in a district where she previously served in an administrative role.
Her entry could add a new dimension to the electoral contest in Mirzapur ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls. However, the impact of her party’s launch will depend on its organisation, local support and campaign in the constituency.
Mittal, a 2013-batch IAS officer, resigned from the civil services after nearly 13 years. During her administrative career in Uttar Pradesh, she served in districts including Mirzapur, Deoria and Sant Kabir Nagar.
She announced her entry into politics in September, saying she wanted to raise issues affecting ordinary citizens and ensure that people’s concerns reached the government. She had previously said she would pursue politics independently rather than join an existing political party.
Her decision to establish the Janata Shakti Party now gives her political initiative a formal party platform.
Uttar Pradesh is expected to hold Assembly elections in 2027, making the coming months important for political parties and prospective candidates. Mittal’s announcement adds another entrant to the state’s developing electoral landscape.
The Janata Shakti Party’s next challenge will be to build its organisational network and communicate its agenda to voters. Further details about the party’s structure, policies and campaign plans will be important in assessing its role in the upcoming election.
