New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay delivered his maiden Independence Day address from Fort St George in Chennai, where he highlighted youth power, transparent governance and the state’s future priorities.

Beginning his speech with a special greeting, Vijay said, “Vanakkam Gen Z”, addressing young people in Tamil Nadu and across the world. He said the younger generation would play a key role in shaping the future of the state.

Vijay’s parents, S A Chandrasekhar and Shobha Chandrasekhar, along with actress Trisha Krishnan, were present in the front row during the flag-hoisting ceremony.

‘Youth Will Drive Tamil Nadu’s Future’

Speaking about his government’s approach, Vijay said his administration was committed to people-centric governance and social justice. He also expressed confidence in the participation of young citizens in building a better Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Minister said his government would continue welfare measures that have benefited people, including initiatives started by previous administrations.

Vijay’s Message on Corruption and Governance

Vijay said eliminating corruption was among the key priorities of his government, describing a corruption-free administration as an important part of true freedom.

He claimed that steps were being taken to prevent misuse of government revenue and ensure transparency across departments. “We want our people to develop zero tolerance towards corruption,” Vijay said, while stressing his government’s focus on clean governance.

Warning to Those Opposing His Government

Without naming anyone, Vijay sent a strong message to his critics and political opponents, saying forces working against his government would be defeated. He said conspiracies against his administration would also be countered, asserting that his government would continue working for the people.

Welfare Announcements on Independence Day

During the address, Vijay announced several welfare measures, including the launch of the Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam (gold ring scheme for newborns in government hospitals) on September 15, marking the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C N Annadurai.

He also announced an increase in financial assistance for daughters of ex-servicemen, along with enhanced monthly support for differently-abled ex-servicemen and their families. The pension for freedom fighters was also increased, with higher family pension provisions announced for their dependents.

Cooperation With Centre, But Defence of State Rights

Vijay said his government would cooperate with the Union government on administrative matters but would continue to oppose policies that go against Tamil Nadu’s rights.

His Independence Day speech marked his first major address as Chief Minister, combining political messaging with governance promises and outreach to young voters.
